Section 01
Who I Am
Walker Painting & Decorating is operated by Adam Walker as a sole trader ("I", "me", "my", "Walker Painting & Decorating"), based in the UK and covering Spalding, Donnington and the surrounding area.
I carry out residential, commercial and landlord painting and decorating work. This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you visit my website, get in touch about a quote, or become a client.
This policy is intentionally thorough, covering every way personal data might be collected or used through this business — even where a particular section may not apply to you.
Section 02
What Data I Collect
I collect personal data in the following ways:
Data You Give Me Directly
- Your name, email address, and phone number when you enquire or book a job
- Your property address and details about the job — property type, rooms involved, interior or exterior work, and timing — so I can quote accurately and carry out the work
- Photos of the property or work in progress, where these help with quoting a job or are used (with your permission) to showcase recent work
- Payment details when you pay for a job (see Section 9 for how payment is handled)
Landlord & Letting Details
Where I'm booked by a landlord or letting agent for rental property work, this may also include:
- The rental property address and any access arrangements needed to carry out the work (e.g. keys, entry codes, tenant contact details for scheduling)
- Turnaround requirements between tenancies
Data Collected Automatically via the Website
- Your IP address and browser type when you visit this website
- Which pages you visit and how you arrived at the site (if analytics tools are in use — see Section 8)
- Information submitted through the contact form, which is processed by Formspree (a third-party form provider — see Section 5)
Section 03
How I Use Your Data
Your personal data is only used for specific, legitimate purposes connected to running this business:
| Purpose | Lawful Basis | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Preparing a quote | Legitimate interest / Contract | Assessing the job and giving you an accurate price |
| Carrying out the work | Contract | Scheduling, accessing the property, and completing the painting and decorating you've booked |
| Taking payment | Contract | To fulfil the agreed price for the job |
| Responding to enquiries | Legitimate interest | To reply when you contact me before booking a job |
| Keeping basic financial records | Legal obligation | HMRC record-keeping requirements for a sole trader |
| Showcasing recent work | Consent | Only where you've agreed to photos of your property being used on the website or in reviews |
Section 04
Lawful Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, every use of your personal data needs a lawful basis. I rely on:
- Contract — processing needed to carry out the job you've booked, or to prepare a quote at your request
- Legitimate interest — where I have a genuine, reasonable business reason that doesn't override your rights, such as replying to an enquiry
- Legal obligation — keeping financial records as required by HMRC
- Consent — for anything not covered above, such as using photos of your property or a testimonial you've given me with your name attached. You can withdraw consent at any time
Section 06
How Long I Keep Your Data
| Type of Data | Retention Period | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Client contact and job details | Duration of the job + 2 years | Handling any follow-up queries and basic record-keeping |
| Financial/payment records | 6 years | HMRC requirement for sole traders |
| Photos used to showcase recent work | Until you withdraw consent | Kept only with your agreement, removed on request |
| Enquiries that don't lead to a booked job | 12 months | In case you get back in touch |
| Website contact form submissions | As long as needed to respond, then deleted | Operational necessity only |
When data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted. You can ask for earlier deletion at any time — see Section 9.
Section 07
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data. To exercise any of these, contact me directly — see Section 11. I will respond within one month.

How I Keep Your Data Secure
Appropriate steps are taken to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse:
- This website uses HTTPS encryption for all data submitted through the contact form
- Personal data, including any photos or property details you provide, is only accessible to me — there is no team or subcontractor with access to client records
- Payment details are handled by the relevant bank or payment provider directly — full card numbers are never seen or stored by me

Section 10
